“Since your days began, have you ever commanded the morning,

And caused the dawn to know its place,

So that light may take hold of the corners of the earth

And shake the wickedness out of it?”

— Job 38:12-13

In these verses, God speaks to Job, reminding him of His unmatched power over creation. God asks Job if he has ever commanded the morning or caused the dawn to rise, showing that only He, the Creator, has this authority. Every day, as the sun rises and light spreads across the earth, we witness the renewing power of God’s hand, faithful and unchanging.

God’s question is meant to remind us of our limitations and His infinite might. While we may feel overwhelmed by the chaos or struggles around us, God is sovereign over every moment. He commands the dawn—bringing light and order out of darkness, just as He can do in our lives. His power is so vast that it reaches the corners of the earth, exposing and shaking wickedness from its place.

This passage challenges us to trust in God’s omnipotence. He not only sustains the universe but also brings light into the darkest parts of our lives. When we feel powerless or unsure of what the future holds, we can find peace in knowing that God holds every moment and commands each day. The same God who spoke light into existence is with us, working to expose, shake, and drive away the darkness in our hearts and in the world.

Reflection:

What areas of your life feel dark or overwhelming today? As you meditate on God’s power, surrender those places to Him, trusting that His light will bring transformation.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your mighty power over creation and in my life. Help me to trust You more deeply and to remember that You are in control, even in the darkest moments. May Your light shine brightly in me, driving out all darkness and wickedness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
