Our city has been riddled with construction over the past several months. Main streets. Side streets. Highways. Bridges. Everywhere there was work being done.
And on one particular day, I noticed a woman who was holding up a long line of traffic as she blocked the entrance ramp of the expressway.
I was struck by her unwillingness to proceed and, seemingly, complete disregard for all those trapped behind her.
She had to know she was entering the construction zone. She also had to know that the flowing traffic would not stop to let her get on without a bit more effort on her part. But she was in no hurry to get into the lane.
It made me wonder how many people are living life in the same way; setting out on a journey only to stop dead in their tracks, unwilling to move forward and stopping everyone behind them from getting ahead as well.
Our decisions open paths for others to reach their destinations, their potential and their goals and things like fear, hesitation and indecisiveness have consequences, not only for our own lives, but for everyone around us as well.
I still wonder just how long that woman sat there before taking the chance and letting others know it was time to move over because she was coming through.
I share this story to remind you that:
#1 – you don’t need permission to move forward. No one’s going to give it to you. It is yours to take.
#2 – you don’t have to wait. There’s no better moment than now to make a move.
#3 – your presence has an impact on the rest of the world, whether or not you see, experience or care about the outcome.
So make a move. We need you to.
Believe that you have what it takes and be willing to try because you’ve already made it this far.
You must believe that there’s something amazing waiting for you that’s worth experiencing.
What a great metaphor! Thanks Tracie
Thank you so much Padma!
