My reading list is endless. I love to research new topics and dig deeper into health & wellness. These are the titles current resting on my table.
Mind Over Medicine by Dr. Lissa Rankin
Relaxation Revolution by Drs. Herbert Benson & William Proctor
Whole by Dr. T. Colin Campbell
Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston
Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr
I’ve started reading Mind Over Medicine, and so far it’s great. Dr. Rankin admittedly began as a true skeptic of the mind body connection and the possibility that we have the ability to succeed at self-healing. Then, she found herself on a journey of discovery that led to her uncovering scientific proof that you can heal yourself.
Here’s a piece that really resonates with me and my practice. And because I’ve studied Dr. Benson’s work, I know that it’s referencing his work regarding the relaxation response and how it relates to our ability to heal.
“When the relaxation response is elicited, stress hormones drop, health-inducing relaxation hormones that counter the stress hormones are released, the parasympathetic nervous system takes over, and the body returns to homeostasis. Only in this rested, relaxed state can the body repair itself. Anything that reduces stress and elicits a relaxation response not only alleviates the symptoms the stress response can cause, but frees the body to do what it does naturally–heal itself.”
This is one of the reasons why I’m a relaxation advocate and teach relaxation techniques. In a rested, relaxed state, we provide our bodies with an optimal environment for healing and restoration, enabling our bodies to thrive.
I’ll keep you updated about great points from this book on Facebook & Twitter. Stay tuned for updates on the remaining books on my table.
