One’s desire and ability to practice self-care is always assessed in healthcare. It’s because self-care is viewed as vital to your health, healing and overall well-being. Yet, sometimes, because of the subjective nature of self-care, the practice can be misunderstood.
- Self-care is selfish – This is a common myth but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Taking time to care for yourself is essential to feeling balanced, fulfilled, and able to help others.
- Self-care is expensive – There are many inexpensive and free activities that can help you to practice self-care, such as going for a walk, listening to music, or reading a book.
- Self-care takes too much time – It is true that self-care requires an investment of your time, but it doesn’t have to take hours out of your day. Even a few minutes can make a transformative difference.
