I gave our sweet girl the most relaxing bath a few nights ago. She’s been a bit emotional and inconsolable lately and I thought this might help. I added a few drops of lavender essential oil to the diffuser and ran warm bath water. Then I let her add a few lavender petals to the water. She thought it was a game and she enjoyed it. And she calmed down. She was all giggles and smiles and didn’t want to get out of the water.
Of course, I enjoyed it too. Watching our sweet girl experience the benefits of these natural resources that have such an amazing impact on our well-being.
Self-care, care that is provided for you, by you, is something we must learn, practice and teach. It’s not a luxury. It’s a necessity.
As a nurse, I’m afraid that we take better care of our cars and shoes than we do our bodies. I’m concerned that the basics, the most simple natural ways, are overlooked and under appreciated. When the truth is, everything we need to thrive is available to us, we only need to be open to learning what these things are and how to apply them to our lives.
This experience was a gift for both of us. I’m looking forward to sharing many more spa days with her and teaching other women how to embrace self-care and healing practices that relax our lives.
