Angry. Mortified. Saddened. I was flooded with all of the emotions while watching the documentary The Business of Being Born, and I was only 20 minutes in!
As a nurse I’ve had the honor of witnessing hundreds of births. Some natural, some with some form of medication and many, many c-sections. I’ve also given birth naturally to three of my own beautiful babies.
What disturbs me about the whole birthing process in our country is the lack of full disclosure. The sharing of all of the details related to every aspect of pregnancy and birth, including women’s birth options is a must, so that every woman can make the decision that is best for her and her family
Women are not seeing the full picture. Women are not being empowered. Women believe that their amazing, perfectly designed bodies will somehow under perform and fail that at their most vulnerable moment. This simply isn’t true.
I’m here to tell you that you are wildly powerful. I’m not here to tell you that you should have a natural labor because I believe that your informed choice is your decision. But I am here to tell you that you absolutely can.
C-sections are considered MAJOR surgery. Interventions in labor and childbirth effect you and your baby and often lead to a downward spiral that cause more intervention along the way.
Ask questions! Be informed. Don’t do anything blindly or carelessly. This is your body and your baby. Do your homework. I highly recommend this documentary. I borrowed it from my local library. You can also click the documentary image above to rent it and watch it online.
If you don’t know your options or no one has ever told you what you are capable of, like giving birth naturally, you will be led down a path of someone else’s choosing. I’ve watched it happen far too many times. And it’s one of the reasons I created this insider’s guide to pregnancy and childbirth.
I’m here to inform and inspire you to embrace the beauty of your body and take charge of your health. If you’re expecting, check out my course. I know it will help you on your journey.
Be well my friend.
