Walking the isles of a local bookstore, I noticed the headlines on many of the magazines in the health section. “Discover the secrets to a world of wellness.” “Nature’s Remedies.” “Disease fighting foods.” “Is organic really better?”

I stopped to think about how we got here. What lead to us not knowing for ourselves, the properties and power of the fruits, vegetables, oils, spices and plant life that’s designed to nourish and sustain us?

It’s quite frustrating to me. The very thing we need to live is available to us in abundance and yet, many know little to nothing about it.

It seems we’ve handed over our own power and health in many ways.

So here are a few things to ask yourself.

What if the only thing that was hereditary was your lifestyle choices?

What if you weren’t destined to have a heart attack, high cholesterol, diabetes or arthritis?

What if you are the authority who gets to decide to make choices that are nourishing, healthful and healing?

Have you ever stopped to think about the messaging that you receive and believe about yourself?

What if you’re not pre-conditioned with anything and it’s poor choices that have been passed from generation to generation?

Did you know that you could choose differently? Would you choose differently?

Contrary to some messaging, your body is designed to keep you safe, help you live, and support you along the journey.

The 80 year old who looks half her age, exercises regularly and eats a plant based diet, isn’t a phenom. She’s simply making choices that will help her thrive.

The 70 year old who only juices, has no medical conditions, takes no medication and feels better than most teenagers shouldn’t be viewed as a unicorn. She’s used food as medicine to avoid the manufactured stuff.

My friend, you have choices.

So often the messaging, images and advertisements are so engrained in our lives that we accept sickness as the norm and believe that healed, healthy and whole is unattainable.

I want you to know that you’re designed to thrive. To live your best life, healthy, strong and at peace.

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭MSG‬‬
